Competition Celebrates Tourism

January 5- March 2, 2017
Opening Reception: January 12, 5-7 pm.

Last fall, the Lawrence County Tourist Promotion Agency (TPA) conducted a photography competition seeking images of events and attractions illustrating Lawrence County’s unique heritage.  Twenty-six entries were received and prizes awarded for the top three entries.

First place was awarded to Antwan Gardner, New Castle for North of Bridge; second place to Eleanore Patton, Edinburg for Edinburg Veteran’s WWII Memorial Monument; and third place to Lillie Dregseth, New Castle for Rodeo, Lawrence County Fair. Gardner also took a merit award for North West Hoyt, an image of the Hoyt West mansion.

Other notable entries included New Wilmington House-Labor Day by Diana Tervo, New Castle; Street Performers by Michelle Brzuz, Grove City; Rolled Oats and Neigh-bors by Dorothy Monahan, Oil City; Late Spring in Amish Country by Denise Guthery, New Castle; and Resting Wagons by Mary Garrett, New Wilmington.

“While only three winners were awarded a monetary prize,” said Janet Falotico, TPA Director, “all entries are helping to build a photo library of the county to be used in regional and national publications as part of the agencies marketing strategies.”

The Hoyt is proud to exhibit the 2016 entries at The Confluence, January 5- March 2, 2017.  A public reception will be held at The Confluence on Thursday, January 12, 5-7 pm.
