Main Galleries: November 4-December 23
Several years ago, artist Peggy Cox received a Fulbright grant to paint the open landscape of Iceland. As she documented the mountains, lava fields, glaciers and moraines with paint and pencil, she also recorded the six month experience in a series of letters. These letters eventually became integrated with the images resulting in the layered, mixed media collages known as the Icelandic Journals. “(They) are raw, rough, process-oriented pieces that are better suited to conveying the idea of the Icelandic landscape,” says Cox. This collection of work will be exhibited in the main galleries November 4 to December 23. An artist’s reception will be held on Friday, November 15 from 5-7 pm. Admission is free. Gallery hours are Tues & Thurs, 11-8 and Weds, Fri, Sat, 11-4.
