43rd Annual Hoyt Regional Juried Exhibition
March 15 - May 6
The Annual Hoyt Regional is perhaps the oldest juried art exhibition in greater Lawrence County. This long-standing tradition strives to discover, encourage, and recognize the talents of artists from across the PA-Ohio region, as defined by a 150 mile radius of New Castle. Now in its 43rd year, the competition provides a professional context for these artists to share their work, network with their peers, and connect with arts enthusiasts from neighboring communities at the Public Reception.
This year’s juror was Janice Driesbach, Chief Curator of the Akron Art Museum. A native of Lakewood, Ohio, Driesbach received her M.A. in art history from University of Iowa. She acted as Curator of Art for the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento and held two museum directorships, at the University of Nebraska’s Sheldon Museum of Art and The Dayton Art Institute before coming to the Akron Art Museum.
Of the 307 entries received, 63 were selected for the exhibit currently on display in the Hoyt Main Galleries through May 6. A public reception was held on March 20 to recognize the following award recipients:
First Place: “Epitaph for Lydia,” mixed media monotype by Maggy Aston
Second Place: “Departure (orange lines),” oil on canvas by Lisa Bergant Koi
Third Place: “Oily Rag Over Manifold,” inkjet print, Jay Kapadia
