First Annual Arts on the Riverwalk
Public Art Project
Arts & Education at the Hoyt is seeking proposals from qualified professional muralists for the design and execution of multi-level mural in the stairwell of the Municipal Parking Garage on Mercer Street, New Castle, PA. The mural represents the first public artwork commissioned by the museum in conjunction with the museum’s annual Arts on the Riverwalk festival held in downtown New Castle, PA. The mural will be unveiled at the 4th annual event on Saturday, September 9, 2017.
The mural represents a partnership between Arts & Education at the Hoyt, the City of New Castle and the New Castle Blueprint Communities team to develop a public art program supporting the implementation of the Riverwalk Trail, city revitalization and Blueprint Communities 5 Year Strategic Plan. Up to $15,000.00 has been budgeted for the entire project.
44th Annual Hoyt Regional Juried Art Exhibition
Emerging and professional artists from the 150 mile radius of New Castle, PA are invited to apply electronically for the Hoyt Regional Juried Exhibition to compete for awards totaling $1000!
Serving as Juror is Kim Beck, Artist, Educator and Curator.
Deadline is January 28, 2017!
1. Entries are limited to artists 18+ living within 150 miles of New Castle, PA16101
2. All media will be considered with the following exceptions: No video or installations.
3. Works must be original and completed within the last three years and not previously shown at the Hoyt.
4. Work cannot exceed 48 inches in any direction or 150 pounds in weight.
Digital entries must be postmarked or emailed to the Hoyt by January 28, 2017.
$25 for up to two entries ($20 for Hoyt Members) and $5 for each additional entry.
Juror's notification of accepted works will be emailed February 18th
Kim Beck is an artist, educator and curator. She grew up in Colorado and now lives in Pittsburgh where she is an Associate Professor in the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. Her work has been shown widely, including at the Walker Art Center, Carnegie Museum of Art, Smack Mellon, Socrates Sculpture Park, Warhol Museum, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Omi Sculpture Park, Hallwalls and on the High Line in NYC. She has been a fellow at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, Art Omi, Cannonball, Helsinki International Artist Programme, Marie Walsh Sharpe Space Program, International Studio & Curatorial Program, Cite Internationale des Arts, Vermont Studio Center and at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts. Her work is included in the collections of Agnes Gund, the Philbrook Museum of Art, the Minneapolis Museum of Art, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum among others. She has received awards from ARS Electronica, the Studio for Creative Inquiry, Pollock-Krasner, Heinz Foundation, Sprout Fund, Pittsburgh Foundation, Thomas J. Watson Foundation and Printed Matter. Her work has been reviewed in Art in America, the New York Times, Philadelphia Inquirer, the Village Voice, Interior Design Magazine, The Believer Magazine, BOMBlog, theartblog, The Architect's Newspaper, and Time Out New York. Beck has also contributed as a writer to Public Art Dialogue and Temporary Art Review and has curated exhibitions and screenings at BravinLee Programs, Artists Image Resource, Delta Axis and the Brooks Museum of Art. Kim Beck has an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and BA from Brandeis University.
Lawrence County Student Art Show

Arts & Education at the Hoyt invites Lawrence County Students in grades 9-12 to participate in a county-wide exhibition of student work in the Hoyt's Ballroom Gallery, March 28 - May 18. Two & three dimensional works will be accepted and prizes awarded at the public reception on April 2, 2-4 pm. Public, private and home schooled students are eligible. Deadline is March 15.

Apply for a Solo or Group Show
If you are interested in applying for a solo or group show at the Hoyt or at the off-site locations, please take a minute to review the following guidelines. Proposals may be submitted to Patti McLatchy, Exhibition Coordinator, by email email@example.com or by mail.
While not limited to the following, the Hoyt does emphasize the exhibition of talent from the Mid Atlantic Region of the United States defined as Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Washington D.C. Additional eligibility requirements may apply by venue:
Hoyt Main Galleries: Selection is competitive among established artists and/or groups demonstrating mature talent and exhibition experience. Artists must be 21+. Please note that due to the historic nature of the facilities, exhibition spaces cannot be altered to accommodate video and installations. Therefore, these media are discouraged.
The Confluence/Downtown New Castle: The Confluence is a community coffee house and gathering space featuring a stage, library and contemporary gallery space showcasing local art by local artists in the heart of downtown New Castle, PA. Exhibition is limited to artists living within a 50 mile radius of the city.
Applications for solo or group shows are accepted by mail and must include the following:

- 10-20 digital images (jpeg only)
- Image list including the title, medium, and dimensions of each piece.
- Current resume or curriculum vitae.
- $25 review fee.
